
The City of Solana Beach City Council is a general law city with a City Manager/Council form of government. The City Council consists of five members who are elected to four year terms. The City Council members serve as Mayor on a one-year rotating basis.
Current City Council Mayoral History
As the Elections Official, the City Clerk is responsible for coordinating and executing municipal elections, including distribution and verification of nomination papers, and maintaining all campaign statements and conflict of interest filings required by the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC). It is the responsibility of all candidates/committees to follow constitutional, statutory, and City code provisions applicable to elections.

GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
Solana Beach's General Municipal Election is held in even numbered years on the first Tuesday after the First Monday in November. The next General Election was scheduled for November 6, 2012 to fill three Council seats (Term: Dec 2012 - Dec 2016).
Nomination Period
The period for filing nomination papers for City Council is July 16 - August 10, 2012. If one of the current incumbents does not file nomination papers by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012, the nomination period will be extended for non-incumbents until 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Nominations papers are issued by the City Clerk beginning on July 16th and are filed with the City Clerk by August 10, 2012. Elected Official Appointment/Oath
Official oaths would be scheduled to be administered on December 12, 2012, following the election certification.

Please refer to the Solana Beach Municipal Code (local requirements) and the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) guidelines and requirements. The FPPC requires the Form 501 (Candidate Intention Statement) to be filed with the City Clerk prior to any expenditures and/or soliciting or receiving of contributions.

Important Notice of Local Election Regulation Changes:
Ordinance 420, adopted July 14, 2010 and effective August 13, 2010, Chapter 2.24 - Elections implemented changes to the local election regulations.
The City Clerk is the Elections Official for the City of Solana Beach.
The City commissions the San Diego County Registrar of Voters to provide election services.
Polls are open between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
