The FIRE STATION is staffed 24-hours a day and operates with two fire crews, three personnel on each of two apparatus. In addition to the six firefighters that respond from this station on a given day, there are two paramedics operating an ambulance owned by Rural Metro. The crews function together on a shift basis with a total of 18 line firefighters and six private paramedics. Four of the line firefighters are also paramedics.
MARINE SAFETY operates year-round protecting Solana's 1.7 mile of coastline. The headquarters at Fletcher Cove is staffed by three full-time lifeguards, with approximately 30 seasonal employees, all of whom are advanced first aid and CPR certified, emergency medical technicians, or paramedics.
The station is equipped with two outfitted pickup trucks, two Honda Personal Watercraft, a hard hull rescue skiff, multiple paddleboards, and buoys for rescue purposes.
The department runs a very popular Jr. Lifeguard program that trains community youth in beach and ocean safety as well as lifeguarding skills.
CODE ENFORCEMENT works with various community businesses in obtaining permits, and licenses. They assist in obtaining code compliance and monitor parking regulations.
ANIMAL CONTROL services are provided under contract by the County of San Diego. The expenses are partially offset by license revenues.
SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT protection is provided by contract under the local station in Encinitas.
The City has a Public Safety Commission with regularly scheduled meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
