The City of Solana Beach City Council is a general law city with a City Manager/Council form of government. The City Council consists of five members who are elected to four year terms. The City Council members serve as Mayor on a one-year rotating basis.
As the Elections Official, the City Clerk is responsible for overseeing the municipal elections, distributing and receiving nomination papers, and maintaining all campaign statements and conflict of interest filings required by the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC).
It is the responsibility of all candidates/committees to follow constitutional, statutory, and City code provisions applicable to elections.
GENERAL ELECTION - November 2, 2010
Solana Beach consolidates its' Regular Municipal General Election with the Statewide Election which is held in even numbered years on the first Tuesday after the First Monday in November. The next General Election will fill two Council seats. See the Council's overview for elected terms.
Nomination Period of Candidates:
The nomination period will be July 12 - August 6. Candidates should contact theCity Clerk to meet beginning July 12th to obtain the necessary nomination papers as well as other important paperwork for candidacy. Official nomination papers must be issued and filed by August 6 to qualify as a candidate for the ballot.

Please refer to the Solana Beach Municipal Code (local requirements) and the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) guidelines and requirements. The FPPC requires the Form 501 (Candidate Intention Statement) to be filed with the City Clerk prior to any expenditures and/or soliciting or receiving of contributions.

Important Notice of Local Election Regulation Changes:
Ordinance 420 Amending Chapter 2.24 - Elections was introduced on June 23, 2010 and adopted on July 14, 2010. The effective date for this ordinance will be August 13, 2010. On this effective date there will be changes to the local election regulations.
The City Clerk is the Elections Official for the City of Solana Beach.
The City commissions the San Diego County Registrar of Voters to provide election services.
Polls will be open between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
