"Our Earth - Our Chance"
is the theme for the 2009 Arts Alive Banners
Solana Beach celebrates its eighth year of presenting the Arts Alive Banners with a thoughtful, environmental theme, "Our Earth - Our Chance." Sixty artists have been chosen to dazzle the community with their inspired artistic vision illustrating this theme. The Public Arts Advisory Commission (PAAC) has added two new awards to the 2009 Arts Alive Program. One is the "Peoples" Choice Award," for the most popular banner. The second, "Top Dollar Award" will be given to the artist whose banner gets the highest bid at the Auction.
From January to May 2009, the Banners are displayed throughout the City on Old Highway 101, Lomas Santa Fe and Valley Avenues for everyone to enjoy. Following the display period, the colorful banners are will be sold at the celebrated Arts Alive Auction scheduled for Wednesday, July 15th from 6:00-9:00 pm, at the JCOR Complex, across from the Train Station in Solana Beach.
All proceeds from the Auction are used to promote the Public Art Program in the City.
The Arts Alive Banner Program is sponsored by the Solana Beach City Council and administered by the PAAC. This popular community program provides an opportunity for residents, local school students, professional and future artists to participate in an annual creative event that beautifies Solana Beach and attracts visitors to the City.
