E-Waste Recycling/Disposal
E-Waste is a popular name referring to electronic products that are at the end of their "useful life." Computers, televisions, monitors, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines are common electronic products that must be recycled/disposed in a special way, separate from the trash stream. Many of these products can be reused, refurbished, or recycled. Unfortunately, most people are unsure of the proper way to handle these products that are no longer useful. For this reason, the City of Solana Beach has developed a few different options for residents to utilize to properly dispose of their E-Waste. The following options are listed below:
-
Residents can utilize the HHW Program listed above. Residents can dispose of their E-Waste through the same program as common HHW products, with the same parameters applying to both programs. There is a $10 co-pay for home pick-ups (free for residents over 65 years of age or homebound) and it is free of charge to drop off at permanent facilities in Poway and Vista.
-
Residents can also drop off their E-Waste at the Waste Management Recycling Center in Del Mar. The facility is located at 2265 Jimmy Durante Blvd. The facility takes all monitors, lap tops, and televisions free of charge. However, there is a small fee for computer units. Please call Waste Management at 1-800-DUMPSTER for more information.
-
Residents can now recycle their computers and televisions (working or not) to Goodwill at local drop-off locations. Goodwill Industries accepts all computers, televisions and computer related equipment and electronics free of charge and provides a receipt for tax purposes. These drop-off sites are located at the following areas and are open 7 days a week:
The donation center in the Park and Ride at I-5 at the Carmel Valley Road/Sorrento Valley Road exit The donation center at the 805 and Mira Mesa Blvd exit The donation center in the Park and Ride at I-5 and La Costa exit
