Solana Beach Clean and Green Committee

The Solana Beach Clean and Green Committee is comprised of local residents and owners working to help preserve Solana Beach's environment. The City Council has recently formed a Council Ad-Hoc subcommittee on Environmental Sustainability to work closely with the Clean and Green committee and provide direction to City staff on sustainability programs.

  • The Great Pacific Garbage Patch Presentation - Six Solana Beach organizations and the City of Solana Beach jointly sponsored a lecture about "The Great Pacific Garbage Patch" by Captain Charles Moore. Sponsoring organizations included the Solana Beach Civic and Historical Society, the Friends of the Solana Beach Library, the Solana Beach Surfing Association, the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy, the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church and the San Diego Chapter of the Sierra Club, attended by 350 people on March 2, 2010.
  • City Council votes unanimously to join CaliforniaFIRST Property Assessed Clean Energy Program (PACE), March 10, 2010
  • City Council votes unanimously to oppose the anti-AB 32 legislative bill and to support the continued implementation of AB 32 in California, May 12, 2010
  • City Council votes unanimously to adopt mandatory recycling requirement for all commercial businesses in Solana Beach, May 12, 2010.

  • Solana Beach Climate Protection Action Plan:   coarse screening framework
  • Energy efficient street lighting program
  • Green Business recognition plan
  • Water conservation plan/mandatory water cutbacks
  • Working with Solana Beach School district on recycling, anti car idling and composting
  • Evaluating solar cookers for use in undeveloped nations
  • Continue to support Solar Financing/Energy Efficiency district

  • Continuing updates/presentations by Friends of the Library, Solana Beach Civic and Historic Society and Sierra Club

  • Find methods to capture much more of waste stream from retail outlets (plastic bags, recyclables)
