Sustainable Regions Program
The City has received a final report from the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) and will be meeting with the CCSE and SDG&E staff to discuss the next step during the month of February. Building "Green" is the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings use resources like water and energy while decreasing buildings - impacts on the environment and human health. Various programs like LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and GreenPoint Rated offer certification for attaining certain standards of green building. Currently, City staff and the Clean and Green Committee are researching other jurisdiction's successful programs and other policies for future implementation.
Solana Beach is one of two cities in the County to be selected for SANDAG's (San Diego Association of Governments) Sustainable Region's Program. Through this program, SANDAG will assist the City with energy efficiency projects and programs. The primary focus will be existing building retrofits, new building design, and policy development. The City also initiated at HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) energy efficiency audit and received a final report in March 2007 with an analysis of the current HVAC system and recommendations for improved efficiency and function.
